Another exciting milestone for Vlada’s Seeds of Life and Cooking with Vlada: the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC) has selected our family program for broadcast on its educational access channels beginning in October.
This is particularly meaningful to us because our mission extends far beyond producing a television show. Through Vlada’s Seeds of Life, we are working to bring positive, educational, family-friendly programming to public access and educational television stations across the country—and ultimately, to audiences beyond traditional television.
Reaching Hundreds of Thousands of Viewers
Founded in 1985, Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium is a Sacramento-based nonprofit educational media and technology organization serving the broader K–20 education community.
According to SECC, its programming reaches approximately 300,000 cable subscribers and 400 educational institutions, primarily through Comcast Channels 15 and 21. Its reach extends across Sacramento-area schools and educational organizations, including Sacramento City Unified, Elk Grove Unified, Natomas Unified, San Juan Unified, Twin Rivers Unified, Folsom Cordova Unified, the Sacramento County Office of Education, Los Rios Community College District, Sacramento State, and others.
That makes this partnership especially exciting for Cooking with Vlada. Our stories of food, travel, history, culture, and family will now have an opportunity to reach a substantial educational and community audience.
More Than a Television Channel
What makes SECC particularly impressive is that its mission goes well beyond simply broadcasting programming.
The organization provides students and educators with opportunities to learn media production, access equipment and technology, work with mentors, create original programming, and have their work distributed to the community.
Through initiatives such as its Student Educational Video Awards (SEVA) and SEVA Studios, SECC partners with schools and districts to help young people develop real-world media and production skills.
This aligns beautifully with what we believe at Vlada’s Seeds of Life: media can be a powerful tool for education, inspiration, connection, and positive family experiences.
SECC also supports educator collaboration, community engagement, career and college readiness, and digital-media initiatives. Increasingly, its work extends beyond traditional cable television into online platforms, podcasts, social media, and other forms of digital content.
Why This Partnership Matters to Us
When we created Cooking with Vlada, we wanted it to be much more than another cooking show.
Our journeys take viewers around the world, discovering the foods people eat, the stories behind their traditions, the history of different places, and the cultures that make each destination unique. At the heart of every episode is the belief that food brings people together.
We are especially proud that SECC recognized this broader educational value.

We’re looking forward to starting to run this show in October.”

Bringing Positive Programming to Families
For Vlada’s Seeds of Life, every new station that welcomes Cooking with Vlada represents another opportunity to fulfill our larger mission.
We want families to have access to programming that is uplifting, educational, culturally enriching, and entertaining—programming that parents can feel good about watching with their children.
Our goal is to continue building relationships with public access and educational television stations throughout the United States and to make Cooking with Vlada available to as many communities as possible.
We are excited to begin sharing our traveling and cooking adventures with the Sacramento community this October, and we look forward to hearing from viewers, educators, and families along the way.
